XYLOPHONES
This instrument, consisting of wooden bars arranged in keyboard, receives it
name from the Greek word xylon (wood) and phone (voice).
It was originated in Asia and Africa, having evidence to date from
ninth century in its early form.
It is believed that they arrived in Europe in the fourteenth century and its
first use in
orchestral music was by Charles Camille Saint-Saëns in "Danse Macabre" in the
year 1874.
